Striding Outsiding
Monday 1st SepWhen life throws you the challenge of a bowel cancer diagnosis and treatment, it can be easy to retreat indoors—resting, protecting, and waiting for the body to feel strong again. Rest is vital, but so too is the gentle act of moving, reconnecting with the outside world, and allowing fresh air and sunshine to help in recovery. That’s why I’m doing Stride Outside.
Nature has always been one of my greatest healers. Stepping outdoors isn’t just about exercise—it’s about resetting the body and mind. Spending time outside can:
- Boost physical strength: Gentle walking improves circulation, lung capacity, and overall fitness without putting strain on the body.
- Aid digestion and gut health: Movement supports bowel function and recovery post-treatment.
- Lift mental wellbeing: Natural light, fresh air, and green spaces reduce stress, ease anxiety, and promote better sleep.
- Rebuild confidence: Each walk becomes a reminder of resilience—of what your body has overcome and continues to achieve.
My stride outside is not about running marathons. It’s about honouring where your body is today and celebrating the progress of tomorrow. Even a 10-minute walk around the block counts. Each stride outside is an investment in strength, hope, and healing.
